February Observances
February is Black History Month! As we celebrate and honor the contributions of Black Americans throughout history, we recognize the importance of uplifting Black voices and stories. Reading books is a powerful way for youth to explore different perspectives, build empathy, and develop a deeper understanding of the world around them. Stories introduce young readers to other experiences, cultures, and challenges, helping them appreciate both similarities and differences among people. You can find a list of books written by Black authors HERE or visit your local library. As always, we are here to support you in any way we can. The I CARE and Safe Family Services (SFS) programs with San Diego YouthServices provide services to youth who are at risk of experiencing trafficking, exploitation, or those who have experienced domestic violence. At risk could include youth who are involved in unhealthy relationships, running away from home, using substances, or engaging in high-risk online behaviors. Our programs specialize in working with youth to increase their overall safety and improve their relationships. Learn more about I CARE and SFS services HERE.
