Happy National Mentoring Month! For 19 years, I’ve been honored to witness the incredible impact our Bigs have on their Littles, the trust families place in us, and the life-changing relationships we help create are what drive my passion for this mission.

The personal stories truly highlight the profound, lasting impact they have on both our youth and volunteers. I want to share with you a story about Joe.
Raised by a single mom in a tough neighborhood, Joe faced challenges no child should endure. At just 9 years old, he experienced a traumatic event that changed his and his mom’s lives. Determined to give him a better future, she enrolled him in Big Brothers Big Sisters—and that’s when Joe met Dave, his Big Brother.
That’s when things began to change in ways no one could have imagined.
Dave became the positive role model Joe needed. Whether it was trips to the park or simple conversations, their bond gave Joe the stability and guidance to navigate life’s challenges.
Dave was there for Joe during his mom’s surgery and stood by his side as best man at his wedding. For 30 years, their connection never wavered, shaping Joe into the husband, friend, and business leader he is today.
Now, Joe owns three Meineke Car Care franchises, and he and his wife Kimberly care for Dave’s wife, Gayle—a relationship that continues to honor the lasting bond they all share after Dave passing.
Joe’s story shows how mentorship can truly transform lives in ways we can’t always imagine.
Stories like Joe and Dave’s continually inspire me.
We’re thrilled to announce a new opportunity for those considering becoming a Big—our minimum time commitment for new Bigs has been reduced to just six months, making it easier than ever to take that first step toward mentorship.
If you know someone who’s been thinking about becoming a Big Brother, now is the perfect time to get involved. Help us spread the word and make an impact!
Thank you for your ongoing dedication to our Bigs and Littles and for helping create life-changing relationships that last a lifetime.
Let’s keep making a difference, together.
Best regards,
