Healthy Futures is a brand new initiative, launched by Big Brothers Big Sisters of San Diego County in 2017. The goal of Healthy Futures is to connect Big Brothers and Big Sisters to resources and activities in our community that will help them enhance the health and wellness of their Little Brother or Little Sister. By equipping Big Brother and Big Sister volunteers with the tools they need to help their Littles succeed, we believe Littles in the program will achieve greater outcomes and mentors will experience higher satisfaction in their mentoring relationships.
Healthy Futures aims to provide resources and referrals to all our current “Bigs” who want to help nurture their “Little’s” health and wellness, so barriers such as:
- childhood obesity,
- lack of knowledge about nutrition,
- lack of awareness for health-related prevention screenings,
- limited access to safe athletic activities or exercise,
- emotional issues, such as depression or anxiety,
- or unprocessed trauma
won’t limit them from reaching their fullest potential.
Big Brothers Big Sisters has an ongoing commitment to collect data on the health and wellness needs of the youth it serves. In response to identified needs, Big Brothers Big Sisters will continually cultivate current partnerships, develop new partnerships, as well as provide unique Big Brothers Big Sisters activities to help our youth become more healthy and active.
